Juan VillaRomero, PhD

PhD

An environmental microbiologist from the Environmental Microbiology PhD program at the University of California, Berkeley with multidisciplinary training in analytical chemistry, molecular biology, and statistical analysis.

Juan has extensive experience developing, optimizing, and automating methods for contaminant analysis in biological and environmental samples, and high-throughput functional screening methods focused on microbial metabolism.

He was capable of designing and implementing sampling programs and laboratory analysis routines using Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) applications, following ISO/IEC 17025:2017 quality assurance protocols. He also has a proven track record of successful communication engaging government, industry, and academia.

Areas of expertise include ICP-OES, LC-MS/MS, GC-FID, GC-MS/MS, ion chromatography, DNA microarrays, high-throughput sequencing, R; per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS); selenium biogeochemistry; toxicology; microbial ecology, metabolism and evolution.
